We are delighted to share that Dr Malavika Rao, alumna of CHRIST (Deemed to be University), BA LLB (Hons.) Batch of 2011–2016, has been awarded the prestigious Ladislas Mysyrowicz Prize 2025 by the Geneva Graduate Institute for her outstanding PhD thesis.
The Prize recognises “an excellent master’s dissertation or PhD thesis devoted to the study of refugees.” Dr Rao’s doctoral research, titled “The Principle of Non-Refoulement for Food-Deprived Forced Migration,” explores how the principle of non-refoulement applies to situations where food deprivation poses a significant risk to forced migrants. Her exceptional thesis will soon be published as a monograph.
Currently serving as an SNSF Postdoctoral Research Fellow, Dr Rao is affiliated with the Cambridge Centre for Environment, Energy and Natural Resource Governance through a Post-doc Mobility Fellowship from the Swiss National Science Foundation. She holds a PhD from the Geneva Graduate Institute, an LLM from the University of California, Berkeley, and a Bachelor’s degree in Law from CHRIST (Deemed to be University).
